Royal Albert Mansions Project by Bergman Design House

Royal Albert Mansions
Tucked away in the heart of London’s Kensington / Knightsbridge district, Albert Hall Mansions is a distinguished residence located opposite Royal Albert Hall and overlooking Hyde Park. The building itself dates from 1879, originally designed by architect Richard Norman Shaw in the Queen Anne revival style.
The project undertaken by Bergman Design House transformed this historic landmark into a luxurious three-bedroom, three-bathroom apartment, marrying Victorian architectural heritage with contemporary elegance and bespoke craftsmanship.

Project Overview
Client & Scale: The residence spans approximately 3,700 sq ft (about 344 m²) on a single level within the listed building.
Heritage Context: Working within a Grade II-listed building (constructed 1879) presents unique challenges: structural constraints, heritage protections, and a need to sensitively retain architectural character while modernising interiors.
Design Vision: Bergman Design House’s brief was to create a residence that feels regal yet comfortable — one that honours the building’s historic roots while offering contemporary luxury. The designers drew inspiration from the surrounding environment (Hyde Park, cityscape) and from the architecture of the building itself.

Elegant Palette & Materials
Luxurious material selections include:
- Lavish marble finishes (for bespoke bathrooms and feature zones)
- Intricate marquetry veneers (walls of the private foyer in the His & Her wings)
- Biophilic elements (wall panelling that references nature, bringing the outdoors inside)

Collaboration
Throughout the residence, Liang & Eimil designs contribute to the understated sophistication of each space — from sculptural seating and sleek occasional tables to statement lighting that enhances the interplay of texture and tone. Each piece complements Bergman Design House’s meticulous attention to detail, embodying the shared vision of refined elegance and enduring quality.
Together, the collaboration highlights how considered design and carefully curated furnishings can transform an architectural landmark into a truly modern sanctuary — one that honours its past while embracing the art of contemporary living.
